What a Hoot! – Owl Visit

Today we gave our residents something to remember, something new they haven’t done before, something they’ll cherish. It was such a pleasure for the residents of Woodlands Lodge to have some beautiful owls visit them this week, and they enjoyed it greatly. In addition, owl therapy (a type of pet therapy) uses owl symbolism to help individuals understand and work through their feelings and experiences, and the residents of Woodlands Lodge appreciated it very much.

“I never thought I’d hold an owl”, said one of our residents.

A few facts about owls

A nocturnal bird of prey, owls have large eyes and a flat face. They are known for their silent flight, excellent hearing, and sharp talons. Owls are found on every continent except Antarctica, with around 200 species. Owls have three eyelids, and they can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees.

How owls can uplift residents

Owls can make residents feel energised, happy and calm. Their unique appearance, calming presence, and interesting behaviours intrigues and give residents a unique experience that they will remember. Owl therapy is a new and exciting learning curve for residents which can boost mental well-being and reduce any stress residents may have.

The owls help to put a smile on everyone’s faces, residents as well as staff. We can’t wait to welcome them back!
